Celebrating art, Celebrating life

“Art is the proper task of life” said Nietzsche so what better way to celebrate Dorothy House Hospice Care’s 40th birthday celebrations than with exhibitions of artwork from celebrities and local artists.

This July, we are delighted to announce the joint opening of two art exhibitions curated by 44AD artspace, a gallery and art studio in the heart of Bath.

TULIP is a fundraising exhibition by artists and celebrities for Dorothy House. On view in Gallery Room 1 will be an exhibition that honours the tulip – Dorothy House’s recognisable emblem – via a multitude of creative guises. From traditional painting to contemporary abstraction, local and international artists and celebrities including British Designer Paul Smith, actors Julian Barratt, Julia Davis, Phyllis Logan alongside artists Richard Wentworth and Djordje Ozbolt have kindly donated their interpretation of the well-loved flower, which has become so entwined with Dorothy House.

44AD artspace will also be hosting At the Crossroads which is a fundraising exhibition by local artist Brian Rusher for Dorothy House. Two years Brian decided to donate a sizeable collection of his artwork to the hospice. The artwork in this exhibition comprises mixed media creations originated mainly in acrylics, pastels and collage, where his subject matter is inspired by personal experiences and extensive travel.

Brian’s artwork has been exhibited privately in the UK, France, USA and Holland, as well as at galleries in England, France and Canada. Dorothy House is extremely grateful to Brian for his generous art donation to the charity.

Some of the key art pieces in these exhibitions will carry a low reserve price but the majority of both exhibition catalogues will sell for what you, the buyer, would like to pay in support of Dorothy House. Help us to raise awareness and funds for the care we provide to patients with life-limiting illness, their families and carers #whenitmattersmost.

TULIP and At the Crossroads will be on display at 44AD: Fri 08 – Sun 10 July 2016

Open: 12pm – 6pm (Sun 1pm – 4pm)
