Dorothy House Hospice Care has developed an innovative programme to support male patients, carers and bereaved who have a desire or need to learn basic cookery skills. The men’s ‘Cook, Share, Eat’ group ran successfully in 2014 at Dorothy House Hospice in Winsley, led by two of our Occupational Therapists.
The four-week course taught basic cookery and kitchen skills and also included the gathering of two groups together to enjoy a ‘bake off’ event. In line with research and positive feedback from the participant audit, we are now aiming to extend the service.
We have been kindly offered a venue at St John’s Hospital in central Bath to further expand this valuable project. This four-week men’s group is aimed at patients, carers or bereaved who have or are experiencing a change in roles and wish to learn simple cooking skills in a fun, supportive environment.
Dorothy House has been invited to link in with both St John’s Hospital and CRUSE to run this project at the St John’s community room, newly named ‘The Bubble’, starting in October 2015. The course will run for four consecutive Tuesday mornings. Places are still available so please spread the word and make contact with our OT/Physio office on 01225 721487 to book your place.
