On Saturday 20 January, we welcomed runners entering the Bath Half Marathon, London Marathon and 2018 Challenge entrants to Winsley for a Team Dotty Meet-Up. Over forty-five people attended the event to hear advice on training plans, nutrition, motivation, injury solutions and fundraising tips from Gold medal winning Paralympic swimmer, Stephanie Millward MBE, personal trainer, Helen Pettermerides, sports physiotherapist, Jo Carp and Dorothy House fundraiser and cross-fit athlete, Chris Eames.
Last year saw the hospice attract its biggest number of runners in ‘Team Dotty’ in the 2017 Vitality Bath Half Marathon with over 181 runners taking part compared to 142 in 2016. This year with 168 runners the Hospice is aiming to meet or beat 2017’s fundraising total of £60k.
Stephanie Millward MBE, Paralympic swimming champion gave some top tips to the Dorothy House fundraisers saying: “Keep smiling on race day, you deserve to enjoy the excitement of the day after all your hard work and Winter training. Also stick with the tried and tested and don’t try anything new, it’s best to keep to the same pace, clothes, shoes, food and drinks that you use during training. I wish you all the best of luck!”
Chris Eames, who has raised over £20K for Dorothy House, gave his race day tips at the Team Dotty Meet-Up saying: “My advice is to trust your training and trust your body, think of the 13 mile run as a ‘victory lap’ to celebrate all the dedicated training you have done leading up to the big day. Good luck to everyone taking part and congratulations for raising money for this inspiring local charity who cared for my Aunt Louise so well.”
Emily Knight, Events Fundraiser at Dorothy House Hospice Care said: I’d like to thank all of Team Dotty for choosing to fundraise for Dorothy House, it is a great achievement to have committed yourselves to these demanding challenges and runs. We’re delighted to have so many runners signed up for the 2018 Bath Half Marathon, it is shaping up to be an inspiring day. Many thanks to everyone who came to the Team Dotty Meet-Up, we look forward to cheering you on at your events.”
