Our mission at Dorothy House is to provide compassionate care and support for those in our community, living with a life-limiting illness.
But we can’t do this alone!
We’re walking to celebrate the heroes in our lives and across our community. We need superheroes all over to take on the challenge of our first ever virtual Hero Walk.
This is your big chance to make a bold statement and do something epic for a hero in your life, while raising vital funds for Dorothy House.
The Hero Walk is an exceptional way to celebrate your special hero. So who’s your hero? Maybe it’s a neighbour on your street that always goes the extra mile. Or a family member that was always there for you. Or a friend that helped you through a difficult time. Or a Dorothy House hero who touched your life. No matter who your hero is, this event calls out the superhero inside of us all and it’s your chance to let your hero know you care about them, while supporting your local community.
Join us and walk for your hero. You can fly solo, recruit a buddy, enlist the family or draft a team! Pick the distance challenge that suit you:
- The 5-mile Hero Walk
- The 13-mile Half Marathon Hero Challenge
- The 26-mile Mega Marathon Hero Monstrosity
- Or – set your own hero target…. something personal to you and your hero
Sign-up today for just £5 (plus admin fee) and we’ll post your Welcome Pack to you! It includes your very own Hero Cape to wear during your walk. We’ve also included a FINISH LINE tape for your own epic selfie as you glide through the end of your course. And to help you make the most of your fundraising, we’ve got some brilliant tips for setting up your giving page and how to become a virtual star!
“The Hero Walk is our way of celebrating dad! And it’s a chance to thank Dorothy House for all the support they gave our family.”
For Sue Morgan, the Hero Walk is the perfect way to pay tribute to her hero, her Father, David, who received end-of-life care at Dorothy House.
It’s tough being a superhero, but you’re not alone. Get family, friends, colleagues and neighbours to be your support-raising sidekicks. The entry fee only covers the cost of administration and your welcome pack. So, by getting your friends and family to sponsor you, you’ll raise valuable funds that will help Dorothy House to continue to provide care and support, free of charge, to all our patients and their families.
Sign-up today. It’s only £5 per person (this covers the cost of your welcome pack and the event admin). When you register, tell us who your hero is that you’re walking for and which challenge you’re taking on:
Once you register, you’ll receive your welcome pack in the post and an email with tips for setting up your online giving page.
The event is live until 12 September. Complete your challenge all in one go or spread it out over several weeks. As you fundraise and tick off mile after mile, share your updates on your giving page. This is a great way to keep in touch with your support-raising sidekicks, share your experience and tell the story of your hero!
On 12 September, join the Hero Walk Afterparty on Zoom to celebrate you and your hero. We’ll hear about the incredible accomplishments of this year’s virtual event, meet some super fundraisers, hear from our community heroes and celebrate your fantastic feats!
Following the Hero Walk Afterparty, you’ll receive a stunning hero medal with a dedication card. If your hero is living, this can be a super special time to share with them the meaning of your miles, while donning the medal on your hero and grabbing a lush photo opportunity.
If your hero has died, you can choose to keep the medal in their memory, give it to a family member or leave it somewhere special. This is an exceptional way to honour their life and reflect on the impact they had on you.
But maybe you’re walking for a Dorothy House Hero? The Hospice is full of them – people that go the extra mile, every day. If so, let us know and we we’d be delighted to pass on your medal and a message to your hero.
