22 April 2017

Event information

  • 22 April, 2017
    4:30 pm - 9:00 pm

On Saturday 22 April 2017 there will be the opportunity for people of all ages to come to Dorothy House Hospice Care to remember loved ones as this year we are combining two of our annual events.

Our sponsored 5k Memory Walk through the beautiful countryside surrounding the hospice is open to all.  Our Tulip Fund holders are welcome to take part in the walk but if they prefer can choose to simply attend one of our complementary tea sittings.

You can pick and choose which parts of the day you’d like to attend.  E.g. just enjoy a tea as a Tulip Fund holder or have your Tulip Tea and then take part in the walk or take part in the walk and have your Tulip Tea afterwards – the choice is yours!  For those who are walking, other team members are most welcome to stay at the hospice and enjoy the creative activities and refreshments.

4.30pm    Event opens
5pm         First Tulip Tea (option A)
6.15pm    Memory Walk
7.45pm    Second Tulip Tea (option B)

Tulip Tea
The Tulip Tea is free of charge to Tulip Fund holders and included in the registration fee for walkers but please select which option (A or B) you will be attending.  There will be delicious cakes, savoury snacks plus hot and cold drinks.  If Tulip Fund holders are bringing additional guests a donation to cover refreshment costs would be appreciated.

Memory Walk
The 5k circular walk is open to all, including children and even the dog!  It follows a picturesque route along footpaths, the canal and fields.  Please note there are also hilly sections and parts which could be muddy so sensible footwear should be worn. We regret that due to the terrain the route is NOT suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.

Entry for the Memory walk is £12 for adults and £5 for children (aged 16 and under).  Participants can choose to raise sponsorship or make a donation in lieu: the amount is your choice, but we suggest a minimum of £20 per adult.  All walkers automatically get to enjoy a Tulip Tea either before or after the walk.

Please view the event’s terms and conditions at Terms & Conditions

The chapel and the grounds will be open for everyone to explore plus there will be free creative family activities from 4.30pm in our Day Patient Unit.

All attendees will have the opportunity to put their own message on a candle bag, which will shine in the stunning grounds of the hospice.

Terms and conditions

All entrants or main contacts must enter the event before taking part (by registering online or by using the paper form).  Paper forms must be returned by Thursday 20 April 2017.

Places are strictly limited and entrants are NOT permitted to register on the day of the event.

The entry fee covers our administrative costs and is nonrefundable.

All children (u.16) taking part must be accompanied by an adult.

We have not set a minimum sponsorship amount, but please raise as much as you can! Our care to patients depends on your support.

Alternatively you can make a personal donation in lieu of sponsorship – the amount is your choice but we suggest a minimum of £20 per adult.

Sponsorship to be returned by Friday 23 June 2017.

Sponsorship forms, fundraising tips and dedication labels will be sent with your confirmation letter.

Dogs are welcome but we regret that the route is NOT suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Part of the walk will be through fields so it could be muddy. Sensible footwear must be worn.

There is a downhill section at the start of the walk, and an uphill section at the end, so adequate fitness is required.

Entrants are responsible for their own medical condition, ensuring that they are fit to complete the walk within the two-hour time limit.

Please consult your doctor if you are in any doubt about our medical suitability.

Entrants need to be aware that photographs taken during the walk may be used to publicise the event and the work of the Hospice.

By signing the entry form you and your team agree to follow the reasonable directions of Dorothy House Hospice Care (DHHC) and abide by the conditions of entry for the Memory Walk.

DHHC reserves the right to cancel this event at any time due to unforeseen circumstances.

All participants walk at their own risk. In no event shall DHHC be liable for any injuries, loss or damages whatsoever, including indirect, punitive, special, incidental or consequential losses connected with any aspect of this walk.
