Dorothy House Hospice Care was set up in 1976, when founder Prue Dufour started a service in Bath to care for terminally ill patients in their community rather than in hospital. Her aim was to support people with life-limiting illness to live well and die well and this philosophy remains at the heart of the our work today.
Over 40 years, we have experienced much change: End of life care is now recognised for the vital support it provides, not just to patients but to their families and carers as well. Covering an area of over 700sq miles, we now provides our services to a population of 550,000 with the majority of this care taking place in homes and communities across Bath and North East Somerset and parts of Wiltshire and Somerset as well.
We want to continue providing pioneering care free of charge for patients, families and carers for the next 40 years and beyond, and have created the Dorothy House Pioneers Fund to help ensure that this can happen. With the help of our Pioneers, we hope to raise £700,000 to reach those who need us across 700sq miles.
