Dorothy House Table Top Sale
Sell, Donate, Smile.
During the pandemic, why not give yourself a little extra motivation to clear out the clutter from your home? Holding a Table Top Sale for Dorothy House is a great way to get rid of unused items, but can also be extremely helpful for those in need.
Planning a successful sale for Dorothy House
To have a successful Table Top Sale we definitely recommend getting your whole family on board. Not only will it be more fun, but it will increase your success for a great sale. Having a range of things available to sell also attracts more shoppers. Let your imagination go wild!
- home grown vegetables
- home made cakes
- your old car!
- anything else you think will help raise money for Dorothy House.
You don’t need to just consider recycled and pre-used goods for your sale. Host a bake sale, or if you have a lot of left over plants or veg from your garden you may wish to sell these too! Or, if you are feeling super generous you could sell your car or other larger items for Dorothy House!
All that’s left to do is to set the date of the sale and get ready to spread the word.
Advertising your sale
You should start advertising your sale around a week in advance. Don’t forget to mention that the proceeds of your sale will be going to support Dorothy House. This will often motivate people not only to come to your sale but to be quite generous in their purchases.
There are at least three ways you should be advertising your sale:
- Create an event page via Facebook or other social media outlets.
- Use Facebook Marketplace for individual items that may bring in more money and then they can come and collect on the day of your sale.
- Put up lots of signs that lead people straight to your sale!

If you don’t have access to a printer please contact: email@example.com with your details and we will send out posters and a dotty box for you to use during your sale.
Pricing tips for your sale
Due to the pandemic we would encourage the use of an honesty box, as this will eliminate any issues with social distancing.
Pricing items can be one of the most difficult parts of a Table Top Sale event. A general good rule of thumb is to price items about a third of the original price when it was new, people tend to be more generous when they know proceeds are going to a local charity, and they will often pay more than the sticker price indicates. This means you don’t have to worry about pricing too low.
You may prefer not to price your items and ask for a donation. This is ok too as quite often people can be more generous with their gifts.
