Should children go to funerals?
When deciding whether to take your child to a funeral, it is important to consider your child’s wishes. Have they expressed interest in attending the funeral? Attending a funeral can help children to process their grief but not all children will feel ready to do this. It is okay if your child feels this way; there are ways you can approach involving your child without having them physically there at the ceremony. This could be through sharing photographs of the ceremony, writing a letter together to the person who has died, or visiting the grave or memorial when they feel ready.
Spiritual Support at Dorothy House
Approaching the end of life may create a desire to reflect on the meaning of life, perhaps more so than at any other time. Spiritual support is an integral part of our care and is available for patients, families and loved ones – those of faith and no faith – from the point of a palliative diagnosis, through death and bereavement.
