Dedicate a light in memory of a loved one
Our Firefly Woods contain a beautiful constellation of individually handmade ‘Fireflies’, kindly gifted by world-renowned artist Bruce Munro. A unique large-scale light installation nestled throughout the woods here in the grounds of the Hospice in Winsley. Each Firefly is made up of tiny separate lights, which glow together, leaving a huge impact.
Each light can be dedicated to the life of someone special and will shine brightly in their memory. You can dedicate your light for as long as you wish.
Jessica's story
Jessica had heard of Dorothy House. She had seen the charity shops and knew the name — but like many people, she never imagined she would need hospice care herself. That changed when her husband Steve became seriously ill. As Steve’s health declined, the Firefly Woods became especially meaningful for them both. When he felt well enough, they would walk together among the lights. Jessica remembers the calm it brought — a rare sense of peace at a time when everything else felt chaotic.

Renewing your Firefly light
If you have previously dedicated a light, we hope this was a source of comfort and solace for you, as and when you needed it. We know that for some, just knowing their light is here, nestled amongst 19,800 other beautiful lights is a source of comfort.

Celebration of Life evenings
When you dedicate a Firefly light, you will be invited to attend one of our Firefly Celebration of Life evenings on 13 or 15 October, held in the grounds of Winsley House.
These gentle, shared evenings offer time to visit your Firefly, reflect, and celebrate the life of someone special.
