Time to Give Thanks – Volunteers’ Week 2022

Volunteers’ Week runs every year from the 1-7 June, and is a special time where we celebrate and give thanks to the incredible people who give up their time to make a difference across our community.

We have more than 25 roles which support across our Clinical, Retail and Fundraising teams. Whether it’s providing a listening ear within our Bereavement team, helping to keep our shops running, supporting our patients, or assisting with administrative duties, our volunteers are truly at the heart of everything we do at Dorothy House. Every single volunteer who supports us helps to make a difference to our patients and their families in their own unique way.

Take our Christmas tree collection, for example. During this year’s collections, we had a team of 199 volunteers in 77 vehicles, who collected a whopping 4300 trees. As a result, we raised over £63,545 for patient care – something that would not have been possible without our volunteers heading out to brave the elements!

Of course, it’s not just Fundraising events that are made possible by our volunteers. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to keep our 25 shops running smoothly. Whether it’s welcoming our customers, sorting and pricing donations or creating wonderful window displays, our team of Retail volunteers work incredibly hard to ensure that our shops thrive.

We have almost 1,000 volunteers who make up the Dorothy House family who come from all walks of life, with ages ranging from 14 to 93. Whether they have a personal connection to the Hospice, or simply want to give back to their community, their passion, commitment and enthusiasm helps to make Dorothy House who we are today.

To all of our incredible volunteers, we want to say a huge, heartfelt thank you for the work you do – we truly couldn’t do it without you!
