Over 140 runners took to the streets of Bath

October 15th saw over 140 Dorothy House Bath Half Marathon runners take to the streets of Bath to raise vital funds for the Hospice over a gruelling 13.1 miles. All together, the incredible runners raised £75,000, a record amount for Dorothy House at the Bath Half Marathon.

The day started off a little frosty, but the sun came out and it warmed up slightly as the runners and their supporters descended on the Dorothy House marquee in the Runners Village.

One of the first Dorothy House Bath Half Marathon runners back to the Runners Village having completed the race was Ben Harris, who completed the route in an incredible 1 hour, 19 minutes and 42 seconds, earning him 141st place in the race overall. He was running with his friend Billy MacKean, and together they raised £1,607.00! They were both running because Dorothy House provided incredible care and support to Billy’s family when his dear aunt Elizabeth, and later, godmother Jane, were diagnosed with cancer.

Another brilliant member of the team was 77 year old Ken Eynon, born and raised in Bath, but has lived out in Australia for most of his life. He was back in the UK during October and thought what better chance to take on the Bath Half. He clocked in a very impressive 2 hours, 41 minutes and 57 seconds and has raised over £1,000! It turned out that some friends from the Canberra Running Club he is a member of back in Australia were also visiting the UK and so were on the side lines cheering him on.

Thank you to our incredible volunteers and side-line supporters!

Thank you to those supporters out on the route too, who spurred on all the Team Dorothy House runners as they came past, with signs and cheers!

The marquee was full of cake thanks to a local netball club who baked tonnes of cake to feed the hungry runners as they came back, and a huge thanks to Samm from Vita Pilates who offered massages to those who needed them.

A huge thank you from the whole team here at Dorothy House to the brilliant runners!
