Writing a will for free with Dorothy House: Our new collaboration with Farewill and the National Free Wills Network

Did you know that 59% of people in the UK haven’t made a will? “I’m too young,” “I don’t have anything to leave” and “I don’t want to tempt fate” are some of the most common excuses, but for many, it’s the perceived cost of making a will that’s the most off-putting.

Cost shouldn’t be a reason to put off such an important piece of life-admin. That’s why Dorothy House offer our community the opportunity to make a will for free, thanks to our new partnership with two free will writing services.

Free will writing with Farewill

Farewill is the largest will writing service in the UK. Created in 2016, their award winning service aims to make the process as simple and affordable as possible. They have consecutively been crowned National Will Writing Firm of the Year every year since 2019 at the British Wills and Probate Awards, as well as placing first in the Good Funeral Awards. On top of that, they’ve also been rated ‘excellent’ on TrustPilot, with over 15,000 reviews.

Farewill offer two ways to create your will, both from the comfort of your own home. You can choose the online route, or, if you’d prefer, you can arrange a free call back from one of their specialists to chat about your requirements.

Online will creation: Three simple steps

1: Head to the Farewill website and follow the instructions. The free will code will be automatically applied at the checkout.

2: Farewill’s team of specialists will check and approve your will in up to five working days.

3: Print off and sign your will in the presence of two witnesses to make it legally binding. You’re all set!

Arrange a call back

If you’d rather speak to someone directly about your will, you can arrange to have a chat over the phone with a member of Farewill’s specialist team. Complete this form to arrange a call back.

A simpler way to deal with death

At the heart of Farewill is their goal to make dealing with death easier and more affordable, which is why they can also support with funeral planning and probate. Their direct cremation service provides customers with a more affordable and personalised way to say goodbye to their loved ones. As of 2024, they also offer funeral plans, allowing customers to pay for direct cremation in advance, giving their families one less thing to worry about after their death. In addition, their probate service is designed to cut out legal jargon and remove the hassle that can often come in dealing with someone’s estate.

The National Free Wills Network

We know that some people may prefer to chat face to face when it comes to making a will. So, we’ve partnered with the National Free Wills Network, which has over 800 UK solicitors registered. Get in touch with our Head of Legacies, Sarah Dodd, on 01225 721480 or emailing sarah.dodd@dorothyhouse-hospice.org.uk to be put in contact with a local solicitor.

Leaving a gift in your will

There is no obligation to leave a gift to Dorothy House when you use any of these services. However, we would be incredibly grateful if you consider it. Currently, gifts in wills fund the care of one in five patients. Even leaving as little as 1% of your estate will make a huge difference to the patients and families we support.

Planning ahead

We want to help people in our community to have difficult conversations about death and dying. That’s why our Information Hub has a host of resources that can help with future planning. This includes our Peace of Mind Planner which is available to download free of charge, and our recent partnership with account closure service Life Ledger.
