Secondary lung cancer – Richard’s story

During 2019, Richard’s fast-paced life was devastatingly brought to a halt when he was diagnosed with head and neck cancer. Then, in March 2020 – just as the pandemic was beginning to take hold – Richard was diagnosed with secondary lung cancer. It was following this news that Richard’s journey with Dorothy House Hospice Care began.

Richard describes his initial contact with the team at Dorothy House Hospice Care as ‘an all-encompassing embrace when him and his family needed it the most’. Specifically, Richard highlights the flexibility of being able to shape the support to meet your needs.

Richard and his family

When considering the impact of Richard’s secondary lung cancer diagnosis on his wife and three children, he shares the importance of having access to support and palliative care resources no matter how short or long your journey may be when diagnosed with a life-limiting illness.

Richard’s story is incredibly powerful for emphasising how Dorothy House is ‘far more than a building and a place’. He describes Dorothy House Hospice Care as a feeling; a ‘one-stop shop’ for care and support.
