New playground for Dorothy House: how trusts and foundations support the Hospice

At Dorothy House, we believe that everyone deserves dignity, comfort, and compassion at the end of life.

Every day, we provide expert palliative care and emotional support to patients and families across our community—free of charge. But we can’t do it alone.

Charity trusts and foundations

Charity trusts and foundations are vital partners in making this care possible. Their support provides the stable, strategic funding we need to deliver and expand our services. While NHS funding covers only a portion of our costs, grants from charitable trusts help us bridge the very large gap.

For funders, this is an opportunity to make a tangible, lasting impact. Your support can help us:

  • Sustain essential services like Hospice at Home, hospice beds, and bereavement counselling
  • Invest in staff training and development to maintain the highest standards of care
  • Innovate with new programs that reach underserved communities or improve the patient experience

Making a difference

Thanks to an incredibly generous £8,000 donation from The Morrisons Foundation, we have been able to build a dedicated children’s playground at our Winsley site – a safe, welcoming space for young visitors who are attending bereavement counselling or visiting loved ones on our Inpatient Unit.

This gift will make a profound difference, offering comfort, normality, and moments of joy during some of the most emotionally challenging times in a child’s life. Without the donation from The Morrison’s Foundation, this would not have been possible.

Mission-aligned partnership

We know that charity trusts and foundations are more than funders—they are mission-aligned partners. By supporting Dorothy House, you’re joining a community dedicated to compassionate, community-based care.

If you’re a trustee, grant-maker, or foundation representative looking to make a meaningful difference, we’d love to talk. Let’s explore how we can work together to bring comfort, dignity, and hope to more lives.
