Dorothy House opens two new shops and a Donation Centre

Dorothy House is to open doors at two new shops in Trowbridge and Corsham; unlocking potential to expand reach and better serve our communities.

The shops will be welcome additions to our existing portfolio of 27 high street shops. The Hospice’s shop landscape sweeps our 800sq mile catchment area, from pre-loved clothes and furniture shops to media and lifestyle stores – all playing a key role in generating vital funds. Income generated by our high street shops currently outweighs the financial support we receive from the government to fund our services. We raised £5.8m in 2024 from retail sales. This is £2m greater than the funding we received from the government in the same year.

Launch of Clearance and Donation Centre, opening on 23 July at 10.00am

This brand-new space combines convenience with sustainability, making it easier than ever to donate quality items and to bag a bargain!

In a digital age of TikTok thrifting and eco-consciousness, The Shires’ pop-up shop will combine style with purpose – launching an in-person marketplace for all things second-hand.

With pre-loved becoming an ever-growing trend, Dorothy House is excited to explore the opportunity to appeal to a younger audience of treasure hunters who place value on sustainable spending and swapping fast fashion for pre-loved picks.

All goods available to buy will be generously donated items from our community to support the delivery of personalised end of life care. With a selection of upcycled and reworked bespoke pieces made by local craftspeople.

We’re thrilled to launch these new shop locations in Corsham and Trowbridge, expanding the portfolio for Dorothy House Retail. The Clearance Centre and Pop-Up shops will offer great opportunities for fashion enthusiasts to come together, reduce fashion waste and grab a bargain, all whilst supporting their local Hospice.” – Rowena Rees, Head of Retail

Threads for care

Last year Dorothy House cared for 4,254 families living with an end of life diagnosis. To continue to be there for their communities in life and death, Dorothy House must raise over £19 million each year. Income from the retail landscape  directly supports services at the Hospice in Winsley and out in the community.

Pre-loved donations wanted!

Quality donations from the public play a vital role in generating this much-needed income. Dorothy House is calling for donations of:

  • Children’s and adult’s clothing
  • Homewares
  • Children’s toys (with a CE mark)
  • Furniture (with a visible fire label)
  • Books and vinyl

Unclean, damaged, or incomplete items cannot be sold and must be disposed of, costing the charity vital funds that should be spent on delivering hospice care in our community. For donating goods, please refer to our donation guidelines.

The Trowbridge Pop-Up and Corsham Donation and Clearance shops will not only aim to expand the retail reach within our patch, but will help ensure financial sustainability, enabling Dorothy House to support people at the end of their lives, so that no one faces death alone.
