The Bereavement Help Points (BHPs) are community based drop-in groups for adults, welcoming anyone who has suffered a bereavement. They are spaces to meet and talk with others who may be experiencing similar thoughts and feelings.

Last year Dorothy House joined forces with Carer Support Wiltshire to jointly run new Bereavement Help Points in Wiltshire. Together we run BHPs in Devizes, Chippenham and Corsham and Dorothy House runs BHPs in Shepton Mallet and Malmesbury.

In addition to running the BHPs directly, we are now working with groups within our community to help train their volunteers and enhance their offering. We have recently provided training to volunteers from Bereavement Support Keynsham, a group offering support to those in the Keynsham/Saltford/Chew Valley area and Open Door, Warminster who offer a social group and a cancer support group and will soon be opening a bereavement support group. Although we may not be directly involved with the support provided by these organisations, our training ensures their volunteers are better equipped to support more people across our region with the quality bereavement support that everyone deserves.

Dorothy House’s mission is to ensure that everyone in our community has access to outstanding palliative and end of life care, and by working in partnership with key organisations we can pass on our experience and expertise, making sure that no-one faces death alone.
