Coping with anniversaries, birthdays and special dates

Every day is different when you are grieving, and anniversaries, birthdays and special dates may bring up new feelings. Grief can be unpredictable so you may not know how you are going to feel on the day.  You might feel sad or angry, or you may find these days a helpful time in your grief to reflect on special memories with the person who has died. You may decide to ignore the day completely or distract yourself by making plans with family or friends. You might find comfort in revisiting an activity that the person you are grieving for once enjoyed.

It is important to remind yourself that whatever you are feeling in the lead up to these days, or on the day of, is completely normal. How you are feeling is unique to you and there is no right or wrong way to approach these days.

We have listed some websites and videos below which are here to support you with managing special occasions and important dates after someone has died.
