How can I remember someone important to me who has died?
When someone close to you dies, you may want to find ways to remember this person so that you can keep special reminders of them and look back on memories you shared together. It is important to remember that grieving is not about forgetting someone who has died, it is about finding ways to remember them.
There are lots of way you can choose to remember someone special to you, such as creating a memory box, writing in a memory book or journal, or planting a tree that you can visit. Remembering someone who has died can help you to feel connected to this person and help you express any emotions you might be feeling.
At Dorothy House, we have lots of fundraising events that you can get involved in (depending on your age), in memory of a loved one. This could be running in the Bath Half Marathon or hosting a Coffee Morning with friends and family. And with support from an adult, you could also dedicate a light on a Firefly in our beautiful Firefly Woods in memory of your loved one.

Dedicate a light on a Firefly at Dorothy House
In the Firefly Woods at the Hospice in Winsley, there are 800 individually handmade ‘Fireflies’. Each Firefly is made up of tiny separate lights, which glow together. Each light can be dedicated to the life of someone special and will shine brightly in their memory, and you can visit your Firefly light whenever you wish. Please speak to a parent or guardian about dedicating a light on a Firefly.
