Work Placements
We greatly value the impact that our work placements have on the services we provide at Dorothy House in Winsley and out in the community.
We therefore try very hard to offer placements where possible, but have limitations in some areas due to age restrictions.
Experience what we do at Dorothy House
Our placements generally fall into the following three categories, each with a different application process.
Duke of Edinburgh voluntary work
We have lots of requests for Duke of Edinburgh placements in our retail shops as they can offer a good placement for these students. These get booked up and can often have a waiting list.

School and college work experience
There are limitations of what we can support for school and college work experience placements due to some health and safety age restrictions in our retail shops and the complexity of our patient and families under our clinical care. If you are interested in applying for a work experience placement, before you complete the online application form below, please consider the following points:
- In retail shops, students under 16 years old cannot work on the till, use the clothing steamer or the price tagging gun. This can limit the amount of tasks that can be carried out, restrict the impact of the experience and make five day placements unviable.
- We do not currently offer clinical placements to students under 18 years old. This is due to the complex nature of our patients and families.
Clinical placements
Throughout the year we provide clinical placements to many people from all different backgrounds and stages of their clinical careers. This will range from students studying on a healthcare course, current clinicians looking for a shadow shift or people interested in a change of career.
If you are looking for a clinical placement and are over 18 years old, please complete the online application form below.
