Dorothy House’s Midnight Walk 2025 – Nikki’s story

Nikki and her friend, Lisa
Last year, Nikki Morgan-Nash took part in Dorothy House’s Midnight Walk, an event for people to come together, raise money for the Hospice, remember loved ones, and most importantly, have some fun!
We spoke to Nikki to find out why she took part in the Dorothy House Midnight Walk and what the experience was like:
Nikki’s story
“In November 2018, my family were given the devastating news that my husband, Stuart, who was only 42, had terminal cancer. He was given weeks, maybe months to live. This is where Dorothy House became part of our family story.
We attended the family creative arts sessions and made Christmas decorations and a memory vase with our three children, then 14,12 and 7. Stuart and I had a hand cast made at the Hospice. They have given us memories and items to remember Stuart by.
Sadly, Stuart died just five weeks later on November 27, 2018. The children and I have had counselling support through Dorothy House and have raised money in our own small way through school events, the rugby walk and now the Midnight walk.
Without the care and support of Dorothy House, the final weeks of Stuart’s life would have been an even more difficult and lonely time.
We felt that through the staff at Dorothy House we had somewhere to turn and ask questions and get answers.”
The Midnight Walk experience

Nikki and Lisa
“The Midnight walk was a blast in 2024! It’s the perfect way to support Dorothy House Hospice Care and bring family and friends together for a fun-filled walk; flashing head gear, sparkly face paint and dancing all while remembering loved ones no longer with us.
Our reward for completing the walk in our pyjamas a lovely glass of bubbly and a medal.
The party-like atmosphere was great and everyone including Dorothy House staff having fun and retelling stories and memories about the people that bought us all together for the event made it a Midnight Walk to remember.”
