Course details

This course explores common emergencies encountered in palliative and end of life care. Through presentation and teaching lead by Clinical Nurse Specialists working in Palliative @ EOL care, case-based collaborative discussions and supported reflection, attendees will develop confidence in assessment, prioritisation and treatments for with patients experiencing a palliative care emergency. The course aligns with professional standards including the NMC Code, NICE Guidelines, and local clinical frameworks. 

Course content

The course includes information giving, and patient studies which participants will be invited to discuss and engage in debate with regards to best care and treatment.

The following symptoms will be covered:

  • Recognising, assessing and managing palliative care emergencies 
  • Awareness of common palliative care emergencies 
  • Know how to recognise the signs and symptoms of the common emergencies 
  • Awareness of possible treatment options 
  • Be clear what your role is when dealing with an emergency 
  • Importance of Advance Care Planning & Patient wishes
