What happens at Dorothy House?

Dorothy House is a charity that provides hospice care for people who are very sick, or nearing the end of their lives, and can’t get better. We refer to this sickness as a life-limiting illness. A life-limiting illness is an illness which cannot be cured. People who work in hospices are experts in providing physical and emotional support for people who have a life-limiting illness, helping them to feel comfortable. Hospices also support families and children who have been affected by someone with a life-limiting illness.

Dorothy House care for people at the Hospice in Winsley, in people’s homes, and out in the community. Most of the care that Dorothy House provides is in people’s homes, meaning that people can receive the care they need to feel comfortable in familiar surroundings.

The Hospice is so much more than just a place where people come when they are feeling poorly; it is a place for families to come together, relax, and receive the support and care they need.
