A free, large-scale light installation

This autumn, something extraordinary will unfold at Dorothy House in Winsley.

From October to December 2026, as evening settles over the valley, the Hospice grounds will come alive with a breathtaking new large-scale light installation by internationally renowned artist and Dorothy House Ambassador, Bruce Munro.

Visitors will wander among thousands of illuminated forms, each one glowing softly in the darkness, a constellation of light that seems to breathe with the landscape. Come and experience a moment of light in the darkness, an evening of quiet awe, reflection, and togetherness within the glow of Bruce Munro’s extraordinary vision.

Tickets free, donations welcome

Tickets are free, with visitors invited to make a donation. Every contribution will help us provide free, personalised care for people in the last 1,000 days of life, and support for those who love them.

Guests will also have the chance to dedicate a light on a Firefly; a beautiful way to honour someone special and add to a growing constellation of remembrance.

Moments of Light has been created as a gift to our community. Tickets are free because we believe everyone should be able to experience this event, without financial barriers. As a charity however, we rely on the kindness and generosity of those who are able to give.  Every donation helps us be there for more people.

How your donation can help provide vital end of life

could pay for

1 hour of an Inpatient Unit Nurse’s time to provide essential care, symptom control and pain relief.

could pay for

2 hours of care during the night, delivered at home, by a compassionate, skilled and experienced Hospice at Home Carer.

could pay for

3 hours of community nursing time, helping people manage pain and emotional distress, in the comfort of their own home.

Known around the world for creating vast, immersive environments of light, Bruce is offering our community a rare gift: the chance to step into a landscape transformed into a place of beauty, remembrance and hope.

World-exclusive art

A temporary extension of our Firefly Woods

This temporary installation builds on Bruce’s permanent Firefly Woods, a much‑loved space of reflection within our grounds. Together, these works form part of an evolving collaboration that uses creativity and nature to support people through grief, offering comfort and connection. By drawing on light in the dark, the installation speaks quietly of life continuing, even in moments of loss.

In this installation, light is not simply something to be seen, but something to be felt: a living presence that echoes the fragile, luminous nature of life and the enduring bonds we share with those we love, even after death.

FAQs

Parking information / arrival

You are welcome to arrive up to 15minutes before start time for Parking. To allow for parking for our clinical staff, patients, and family members, we kindly ask that you park in our bottom car park. Please follow signs for ‘overflow parking.’ Disabled parking is in the middle car park.

Amenities

Toilets, including accessible and baby‑changing facilities, are available. Please ask a member of staff for directions.

Accessibility

Please keep to the paths during your visit. There is an accessible route suitable for wheelchair users and pushchairs. Do note, the paths may become uneven and slippery in wet weather. Please mind your step – we cannot accept responsibility for any injuries that occur.

Dogs

You are welcome to bring your dogs, but please keep them on a lead and pick up after them.

Etiquette

Please be mindful that we are a working Hospice with patients, families and staff on site at all times. Please, therefore do not stray from the clearly marked trail. Our gardens are maintained by volunteers so please take any litter home with you.
