Making a difference with coffee and cake
Hosting a fun coffee morning or even afternoon is a simple, relaxed way to raise funds while enjoying great company. With just a few cakes, a kettle on the boil, and a welcoming atmosphere, you can turn a casual get‑together into something that transforms lives.
The amounts below show just how far your support can go, directly helping Dorothy House provide compassionate care and comfort to people living with a life‑limiting illness.

Olivia and Poppy's Coffee Morning
Olivia and Poppy and others from Trowbridge Civic Centre hosted a Coffee Morning for us in 2025. “We chose to continue supporting Dorothy House this year because of personal connections within our team and the compassion, care, and support the charity gives to families when they need it most. After raising £428 at our Coffee Morning last year, we’re delighted to be hosting another on Friday 21st August 2026 following its huge success.”
Jane Higson's Coffee Morning success!
Jane Higson held her Dorothy House Coffee Morning in September 2025, raising an incredible £337 for Dorothy House. Her friends, family and neighbours enjoyed yummy cakes and coffee, and even ended the day with a garden disco! Huge thank you to Jane and her amazing Coffee Morning attendees for their support.
Raising a cuppa in memory of Dad!
For many, hosting an event is a way of saying thank you and giving back to the Hospice. One of those hosts is Julie Richards, who held her event back in June in memory of her dad, John Lovering.
We love hearing stories about our wonderful Coffee Morning hosts and their reasons for hosting an event to raise funds for Dorothy House. Some host an event simply to get together with friends and family while supporting a good cause, however one of the most common reasons for people to host a Coffee Morning is because they’re doing so in memory of a loved one.
Jenny's Coffee Afternoon
Jenny held a fantastic Coffee Afternoon on 8 April 2025 raising over £1,000 for Dorothy House. The amount raised will go to support Jenny’s Tulip Fund for her father and also the Tulip Fund for her friend’s father who both received care from Dorothy House. Jenny said “I’m sure they would both be very proud of the amount raised and we all appreciated the care they were given when they needed it. We will definitely be doing another coffee afternoon next year!” A massive well done to Jenny and her fellow Coffee Afternoon supporters for raising such vital funds for the Hospice.
Corsham Friend's Group Coffee Morning
Our Corsham Friend’s Group recently hosted a Dorothy House Coffee Morning at the Royal British Legion, Corsham. As well as selling cakes, they hosted a chocolate themed raffle and sold other goodies too, raising a brilliant £700 for the Hospice.
Karen and Helen's Coffee Morning
Karen & Helen have hosted 3 coffee morning so far and have plans for a 4th in 2026. Both have had cancer themselves and have had relatives and friends cared for by Dorothy House. They both really enjoy baking cakes, putting out posters and holding a Raffle. They said “we get a great response from old and new customers as well as friends and family”.

Steps to hosting a Coffee Morning
Top tips for hosting a Coffee Morning
One of the best things about hosting a Coffee Morning is that you can do so any time of the year, for whatever occasion. Here’s a few suggestions to get those ideas going!
• Theme your event around a particular holiday, such as Easter, Halloween or Christmas.
• If you’re hosting in memory of someone, consider holding it on a date that was special to that person, such as their birthday or an occasion they always celebrated.
• If you’ve been inspired by the latest happenings in the Bake-Off tent, you could even host a GBBO themed event – minus the stress of the technical challenge, of course!
• Of course, having a theme is optional – if you want to hold a Coffee Morning ‘just because,’ go ahead!
