Bereavement support – Sharon’s story

Sharon sadly lost her mum and friend to life-limiting illnesses in a very short space of time. After losing two people very close to her, Sharon shared with us how she felt ‘overwhelmed with grief’.

Seeking support and advice, Sharon got in touch with Dorothy House Hospice Care and received 9 weeks of bereavement support, which she described as a 'life saver'. Alongside one to one counselling, Sharon also joined our ‘writing through grief’ 6-week course. This offered a relaxing group setting for Sharon to meet with other bereaved relatives who were experiencing similar feelings.

Shared told us: ‘It was really helpful to speak to other people in similar situations. They were on the same page and completely understood all the things that were going through my head’.

Reflecting on her experience with Dorothy House Hospice Care, it was heart-warming to learn that Sharon was in awe of the care and support delivered both at Winsley and within the community. Sharon shares her gratitude for the bereavement support Dorothy House Hospice Care provided in supporting her with grief, but also the respect and dignity with which her mum and friend were cared for.

‘We’re extremely lucky to have qualified carers with such compassion to come out into the community to take care of every need. It’s a very loving pace’.
