Sustainable September 2026: Shop, Donate and Celebrate Preloved Style with Dorothy House

Sustainable September is back for 2026! First launched in 2022, our annual campaign aims to bring together communities, creativity and compassion to help fund vital end of life care while celebrating all things preloved.

As always, we’ll be flying the flag for retail sustainability all this month, encouraging our communities to support their local charity shop and show some love for second-hand style. To help you on the way, we’ve got plenty of activities lined up throughout the month, and there’s something for everyone!

Bag a bargain all month long!

It wouldn’t be Sustainable September without our monthly Warehouse sale, which takes place at our  Corsham Clearance and Donation Station on Saturday 5 September. As always, you’ll be able to shop a fantastic selection of end of line goodies including clothes, homeware, books, toys and more, with the chance to fill a bag of clothing for just £10. You can also drop off any CLEAN and UNBROKEN donations throughout the week.

If you haven’t had the chance to attend a Warehouse sale this year, we’ve also got you covered, as for the first time, we’ll be running the much-loved ‘fill a bag for £10’ offer all month long! The shop will be open from 10am to 3pm Monday to Friday, so if you’re dropping by with clean and unbroken donations, make sure you take some time to have a browse through those rails!

Our Warehouse sales take place on the first Saturday of every month, from February to November and in recent years has become a very popular shopping event in our community!

Autumn wreath making with Eco Bunting

As we head into the cosier seasons of the year, we’re excited to be hosting an Autumn Wreath Making workshop at our Devizes Superstore as part of our continued partnership with Sharon Goold from Eco Bunting.

Sharon has been supporting us since October 2024, first with her amazing range of unique reusable bags crafted from rag waste, and most recently, through Threads for Care, our umbrella brand which launched last year, partnering with local makers and creatives to upcycle and repurpose waste fabrics from our shops that would otherwise go to landfill.

Perfect for anyone who loves one-of-a-kind decoration, the workshop will guide you through creating your very own rainproof Autumn wreath using repurposed life jackets, paddling pools and tents. You’ll be guided through the process using precut leaf shapes and wire wreath frames, selecting the colours and sequence to create a unique wreath that will be ready for you to display.

Sharon’s workshop will take place on Friday 18 September at our Devizes Superstore (located on the Garden Trading Estate, SN10 2HW), from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Tickets cost £30, and £5 from each ticket purchased will be donated by Eco Bunting to Dorothy House. Places are limited, so be sure to book now to avoid disappointment!

Join us for Fixfest!

Throughout Sustainable September, we’re also building the excitement for Fixfest, which takes place on Saturday 10 October.

In this exciting partnership with BRLSI and Share & Repair Bath, this brand-new event is designed to help you repair, reuse, restyle and rethink the way we consume. With hands-on workshops, repair sessions, inspiring talks and creative activities (many of which are free of charge!), this family-friendly day is set to have something for everyone. All proceeds from the workshops and donations will also support the charities involved, including Dorothy House.

As well as a great lineup of workshops, including ones facilitated by the Hospice, you’ll have the opportunity to browse our rails of preloved clothing and our fantastic Threads for Care and Ubiety collection. There will also be plenty of free children’s activities, perfect for keeping younger visitors entertained!

Shop with Dorothy House Retail

Of course, one of the best ways to celebrate Sustainable September is to pay a visit to your local Dorothy House shop. Whether you’re donating, searching for something specific, or simply popping in for a browse, you can always guarantee some fresh finds, with every purchase supporting end of life care across our 800sq miles.

Making the most of your donations

You can also get involved in Sustainable September by donating preloved goods to your local Dorothy House shop. Our shops are always in need of clean, good quality donations to help us generate vital income for the Hospice, so if you’re planning a de-cluttering session ahead of the new season, keep us in mind!

Whether you pop into your nearest shop, head to our Clearance and Donation Stations in Corsham or Devizes, or book a free furniture collection, your donations will help us ensure we can continue to support local families across our community.
